The Trail Mix
A newsletter for and about the Setauket to Port Jefferson Station Greenway
Volume 3, Issue 2 February 2023
The Trail Mix is the monthly newsletter of The Friends of the Greenway. We established this bulletin to keep the Friends and users of the Greenway current on some of the “goings-on” regarding our Trail and to dispense a mix of bits and bytes of flavorful information. Hopefully, The Trail Mix will help to enlighten, inform, and entertain our readers. The Friends of the Greenway is a committee of our parent organization – The Three Village Community Trust.

A Great Day For the Greenway
The Friends of the Greenway and the Board of Trustees of the Three Village Community Trust attended the press conference in January to her Senator Chuck Schumer announced that $450,000 of federal funds were being directed to demolish the fourteen deteriorating buildings on the Lawrence Aviation Superfund Site. This property, which is near the Greenway, has attracted squatters and vandals and has been a danger to young people exploring the area. Finally, the funds are in place to remove a decades-old eyesore!

As we mentioned in our last, the Three Village Community Trust and the members of our Friends of the Greenway are now working to rebrand the trail as The Steve Englebright Setauket to Port Jefferson Station Greenway. Charlie McAteer – see the handsome guy above in the red vest – has written to our local State representatives to initiate this honor for the “Founder of the Greenway.”
