The Trail Mix
A newsletter for and about the Steve Englebright Setauket to Port Jefferson Station Greenway
Volume 3, Issue 1 January 2023
The Trail Mix is the monthly newsletter of The Friends of the Greenway. We established this bulletin to keep the Friends and users of the Greenway current on some of the “goings-on” regarding our Trail and to dispense a mix of bits and bytes of flavorful information. Hopefully, The Trail Mix will help to enlighten, inform, and entertain our readers. The Friends of the Greenway is a committee of our parent organization – The Three Village Community Trust.
A New Look and a New Name
We are experimenting with a new look for the layout of The Trail Mix in 2023. The formatting you see in this edition may work out – time will tell. Our big news for the start of 2023 is we are working to rebrand the 3.2-mile trail in our community as The Steve Englebright Setauket to Port Jefferson Greenway. The outgoing New York State Assemblyman was responsible for envisioning, planning, and securing funding for today’s greenway. He understood the establishment of the greenway would prevent any plans for a highway from being built on the unused corridor.
The Three Village Community Trust and the Friends of the Greenway gather with Assemblyman Englebright to announce the rebranding of the Greenway as The Steve Englebright Setauket to Port Jefferson Station Greenway.
The Trail Stewards
Our Trail Stewards do the hard work of keeping the Greenway beautiful. Our monthly cleanups are fun – and are a great way to contribute to the community!
Our Scouting Partners
Our partnership with scouting groups helps enhance the trail. Their continual contribution to cleaning the trail, adding benches, bat houses and other features makes the trail unique in many ways.
Breakfast on the Trail
The Trail Stewards have meet-ups throughout the year to discuss issues related to the upkeep and beautification of the Greenway. Want to become a Trail Steward? Email Herb HJMones@gmail.com or Charlie:cfmcateer@gmail.com

Delicious bagels, hot, steaming coffee – sooo good! For the third year in a row, The Trail Mix has voted Bagel Express #1 for breakfast and lunch, and all of your catering needs.
A Big Friend of the Trust is Swan Cove Landscaping. Swan Cove does a whole line of services – lawn maintenance, pruning, stone walls, and firewood. Dave Fortuna, the owner/operator, donates many, many of his services to the Trust. The result – our properties always look great! Thank you, Dave! Call 631-689-8089.
Emerald Magic Lawn Care’s horticultural consultant, Craig den Hartog has been providing flower bulbs for the Greenway for many years at “no cost.” We planted a big bulk of these bulbs at the kiosk on Gnarled Hollow Road, Setauket.
