A Photo-Letter?

It’s a Trust Thing! We know you are busy, so rather than sending you a newsletter, please take a look at our new ‘photo-letter’ to keep you informed and up-to-date on your Trust.

Light and Power

Thanks to your membership dues and donations, new electrical wiring was installed in the Immigrant Worker Factory Houses – from floor to ceiling. The work was done last month! We are another step closer to opening these living museums to children and families to learn about life in the late 1800’s. The Trust was instrumental in saving these structures which were slated for destruction by their previous owners. Yes – Protecting the Place You Love.

Clean Water!

The Trust is working to ‘Protect the Places You Love’ by introducing the most current nitrogen reducing septic systems to its properties. Currently the Tyler House has an advanced system, and plans are underway for one at the Hawking Homestead. In the photo above, Board member Robert Reuter observes experts fine tuning the Tyler House system for maximum efficiency.

The Green Team

The Greenway’s monthly cleanup in August brought together Trail Stewards, Scouts and community members to spiffy-up the trail. The Trust’s ‘Friends of the Greenway Committee’ is dedicated to the upkeep of the trail in order to “Protect the Places You Love.”

The Chicken Hill BBQ – A Fun Way of Remembering Our Past

The Ninth Annual Chicken Hill BBQ was a big, big success! Over 100 members of the community gathered to celebrate our community’s past, pay tribute to Hub and Nelle Edwards, and raise money for the Trust’s ongoing restoration projects. Dave Prestia of Bagel Express was our generous sponsor for the event. Michael Rosengard of North Island Photography transformed the grounds of Trust Headquarters into a rustic-country wonderland. And, yes, there were Chicken Races!

Coming Up – A Very Special Day in the Three Villages

Saturday, September 7th is Culper Spy Day. The Three Village Historical Society has masterfully developed an internationally recognized event that examines our area’s pivotal role during the American Revolution. Join the Trust at one of our most iconic properties – Patriots Rock.
From 10am – 3pm, we’ll have lectures about the Battle of Setauket, a blacksmithing demonstration, interactive learning experiences about the Setalcott Nation, and much more.

At Noon, we will have reception for artist Michael Rosengard – over the past year, his artistic vision has transformed the grounds into a parklike setting.
